Went to a Cisco info session tonight to which Cisco didn't show up. They're interviewing on campus tomorrow. I threw my resume into the pile for the vacant slot. Lawrence Livermore is also doing mock interviews tomorrow. Signed up for that too. The words "Rat Race" really don't do justice...

I'm totally strung out on anxiety and its making me really angsty. I just want to sit here and rant ... what a waste of time. Blogs are the perfect union of pretentious narcissism and voyeurism.

20050107 -- Set my clock for 9:00p so I woke up at 11:00a :/ Managed to get in the water by 12:30 in spite of it. 300 WU, 3x200 @3:20, 2x(3x100 descend @1:40) @6:00, 3x(4x50 descend @ 0:50/0:45/tried 0:40 on the last one but couldn't keep it). Kick: 100 @2:15, 2x50 @1:10, 2x100 @1:30 fins. Pull: 100, 150 paddles. 100 WD. Total: 2850 in 1:00.

Bought a pair of Speedo "Vanquisher" goggles last night ... with the 2nd smallest nose bridge, they fit me perfectly. I thought I was going to have to tighten the straps when I got in but I didn't have to dump water out of them once for the entire workout! Comfortable too. Also bought a pair of TYR fins. Zoomers are good for swimming but not so great for kick sets.

Swam a lot over the break -- I may type them up later. I went 6 days probably an average of 4000-4500 usually around 1:30.

Going to look into masters swimming stuff in Pgh. There's a group at Pitt I think. It seems like CMU ought to organize one.

20041209 -- Swam: 500 swim, last 200 w/fins warmup, 8x(100 swim, 2x50 swim) with some easy 50s in between intervals went something like 2:00/1:00, 2:10/1:10, 2:15/1:15, 2:30/1:30, splits decended a little from 1:23/0:38. 200 swim fins, 2x50 kick, 100 pull, 100 swim WD. Total: 2600. Started the set too fast... should have done 1:25/1:22/1:20/1:16 on the 100s, 0:40/0:38:/0:35/0:33 on the 50s.

20041208 -- Swam: 300 WU, 4x(200 swim, 2x100 swim) -- descend the 200s -- 3:12/3:07/3:00/2:54, ascend the 100s -- 1:25/1:29/1:31/1:35. 3x50 kick @1:15, held under 1:00! 2x100 pull paddles @2:00, 3x50 kick @1:15, again under 1:00! 100 pull paddles. Total: 2500. Need to get up earlier -- forgot to se the clock today, somehow -- workouts have been cut short all week by the pool closing :/

20041101:1425 -- Swam this morning. 300 swim, 3x100 kick @2:30, 3x100 pull @2:00 -- stop paddles for awhile and/or get smaller ones, don't tear up shoulder. 2x500 swim @8:30, 1st with zoomers around 7:30, 2nd without around 7:55. 5x200 swim @4:00 -- first around 3:00, last around 3:05. 300 s-k-p cooldown. Total: 3200 in 1:05. This was a dumb set or at least I didn't work hard enough; the splits on the 200s ended up only being about 2 seconds faster per 100 than the 2nd 500.

20041029:1518 -- Swam yesterday, 300 swim/6x50 kick/300 pull warmup, 200 swim, (6,5,4,3,2,1)x50 swim, last sprint a shade above 0:30, 300 cool-down. ~3600. I seem to need to sleep for 10 hours after these long workouts.

20040824:2350 -- Joel and I had coffee, etc, on Friday night. Pitty he's in State College. Silly Computer Club stuff on Saturday, biking on Sunday, then bbq at Kirby's. Yesterday: lifted back, pecs, shoulders, abs. Today: swam -- 600 kick, etc. Lifted legs, a little lower ab stuff. Tommrow morning: edit Lessig interview. Tomorrow TIA: air Lessig interview. TODO: put up TIA web page, show archives, etc. Working on building up my "talking to people" muscle ... practice makes perfect. Finshed up Hamlet III.ii, III.iii, made a first pass over III.iv but I'll definitely have to read it again. The Arden edition is outstanding. Need to plan my reading a bit. Ulysses is on the horizon as is a more thorough study of Gravity's Rainbow. And then the third volume of Stephenson is coming out in October, IIRC.
