Rework how gradle.properties is handled

Since gradle keeps a lot of temporary junk in the .gradle directory, we
don't want that directory to be a symlink into our git repo.
.gradle.properties [moved from .gradle/gradle.properties with 100% similarity] blob | history
install-symlinks.sh diff | blob | history
